Early afternoon we responded to an urban rescue call from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, regarding a construction worker who was lying injured after a fall on the 13th floor of a building under construction, in the Salford Quays area, of Salford, Manchester.
GMAS and GMFRS were faced with the difficulties of evacuating the injured person from this (somewhat unusual) location. Our 4 team vehicles and personnel responding direct were stood down, when a successful rescue was carried out by the Fire & Ambulance resources on scene, utilising a builder’s skip, and a tower crane, which lifted the rescue party to the top of the building and brought the injured man back down to the waiting ambulance.
(at stand down, within our overall response, one of our team members was already on scene, with others from our specialist High Access Rescue Unit minutes away)
